In April 2021 Councilmember Mike Bonin invited representatives from SELAH and Westside community groups to a zoom meeting to learn about the SELAH model for supporting unhoused neighbors. Four months later, Neighborhoods in Partnership, then LA Neighbors for Neighbors was born.
LA Neighbors for Neighbors is a collection of volunteer-led organizations which joined forces in August 2021 to launch the first Resource Center for people experiencing houselessness on the Westside. We host an event on the third Saturday of every month. Modeled on a similar effort in Silver Lake by SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition, the LAN4N Resource Center provides unhoused neighbors with free food, clothing and showers, as well as a range of services including CalFresh sign-up, street medicine, COVID-19 testing and vaccines, legal aid, and help obtaining IDs and cell phones. Volunteers staff various booths and transport people to the event from encampments across the Westside. The Resource Center takes place at St. Bede's Episcopal Church, located at 3590 Grand View Blvd 90066 in Mar Vista. Update on July 11, 2023 - This program has been suspended due to volunteer burnout. |
